Dual Processor Support
Until very recently, it was unclear as to what sort of dual processor support these chipsets carried. At last year’s Fall Comdex, Tyan gave us a demonstration of a ~$100 dual processor motherboard based on the 694X chipset. The reason for its low cost was because of the low cost of the 694X chipset itself and because of the fact that the 694X features an integrated SMP ASIC that eliminates the need for an external chip to be used in order to enable SMP support.
While the board didn’t make it into this roundup, we will be sure to provide a review of it in the near future.
